Our support services apply an individualized approach to help clients advance their emotional wellness and increase their access to critical needs.
Client Support by Caseworkers
- Our caseworkers guide clients to services that meet their personal goals, monitor client progress, arrange for one-on-one instruction, and make referrals.
- Caseworkers also conduct home visits, during which they can help a client read mail, write checks, manage finances, complete forms, and perform basic home repairs to ensure a client’s safety.
- Bilingual casework services are available.
Guided Transport Services
- Our guided transport services increase our clients’ access to life-sustaining medical care, food supplies, our programs, and other critical services.
- Our services are “door-through-door,” which means that our specially-trained drivers provide safe rides, guide clients from their homes and into their destinations, and provide additional assistance – such as reading paperwork and carrying bags.
- While there is a ticket fee of $3.50 per trip, or $7 per round trip, no qualified client is denied a transport due to financial hardship.
- Each client may take an unlimited number of rides each month to and from agency services and up to three (3) rides monthly for medical appointments, grocery shopping, and other critical needs. Reservations are required at least seven (7) days in advance.
- Cancellations of transports on the day of or the day before scheduled services affect arrangements for other clients and often prevent others from getting needed transports. Clients are asked to please limit late cancellations to only unavoidable situations and provide as much notice as possible.
Personal Counseling
- Individual sessions with professional counselors help clients become more accepting of their impairments, deal with other emotional challenges, and improve their outlook on life.
- In-person counseling sessions can be held at a Sights for Hope services center or in a client’s home.
- All counseling is supervised by a vision rehabilitation therapist (VRT) and counselor who is certified by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP).
- Counseling by phone or videoconferencing also is available.
Peer Support Groups and Mentoring
- Peer Support Groups give clients opportunities to express needs and concerns, participate in problem solving, and share resources in environments of openness, respect, encouragement, and trust.
- Our support groups include our Lehigh Valley Client Group, Monroe Client Group, and Women’s Group.
- Client-to-client mentoring services also are available.
Social and Recreational Activities
- Our social and recreational activities help clients remain active, execute skills and techniques that they have learned, connect with those who face similar challenges, and avoid the harmful effects of isolation.
- Popular activities include shopping trips, nature walks, wine tasting, and theater trips.
Public Service Opportunities
- Our Lehigh Valley Sights for Hope Lions Club and our Monroe Sights for Hope Lions Club empower clients to serve their communities.
Posch Braille Library
- The Posch Braille Library at our Lehigh Valley Services Center includes more than 400 Braille books, games, and additional items.
- The library’s first items were provided from the collection of Gary John Posch Jr., an avid Braille reader who passed away in 2013 at the age of 36.
- The library is open to our clients during typical service hours by appointment.
