Sold-Out Bowlers for Sight Tournament Honors a Life of Advancing Possibilities

Sights for Hope honored a lifetime of advancing possibilities for others – no matter how they see the world – and carried on that spirit Saturday with the sold-out Marian Boehm Memorial Bowlers for Sight Tournament, presented by BowlerX.

Named in honor of dedicated Lehigh Valley Braille Guild Volunteer Marian Boehm, Sights for Hope’s newest fundraiser brought together bowlers and people who are blind or have visual impairments in a friendly, non-traditional competition. All 17 teams rolled two games and a Sights for Hope client, an individual who is blind or lives with a visual impairment, bowled a bonus frame for each group. The client’s single-frame score was added to the team’s total.

The tournament was created shortly after Marian passed away in November by her family and Sights for Hope to highlight her love of bowling and her dedication to translating text into Braille for people who could not read traditionally.

The Megan’s Ally Cats team captured the championship trophy and $125 cash prize. More importantly, however, Sights for Hope surpassed its goal by raising more than $14,000 and commemorated a legacy centered on possibility rather than limitation. Along with a 50-50 drawing and appearance by PAB bowler Owen Darby, the afternoon at Steel City Bowl & Brews in Bethlehem, PA, included remembrances of Marian Boehm’s life and service.

Marian and her late husband, Marvin, owned two businesses in Emmaus, PA, and Marian was well known among friends and family for her delicious strawberry pies, beautiful flower gardens, sharp sense of humor, and love of bowling and other games. As a volunteer, Marian translated countless books into Braille for the Lehigh Valley Braille Guild, an affiliate of what is known today as Sights for Hope. At its peak, guild volunteers devoted up to 1,000 hours each week to producing Braille materials for people who could not read print.

“Marian never sought attention for herself, but she would be proud that people came together for something she loved and supported a cause that was so important to her,” said Jeffrey Dutt, Marian Boehm’s son-in-law and the event’s co-founder. “She believed that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and enjoy life, and we wanted this event to represent what meant most to her.”

The top five team scores were: Megan’s Ally Cats with 1,284; Miracles with 1,180; Cornerstone Advisors with 1,115; The Pinheads with 1,035; and Guardians of Freedom with 1,004.

The 2026 Marian Boehm Memorial Bowlers for Sight Tournament was also supported by Lane Sponsors Accessibility Shield, Cornerstone Advisors Asset Management, Inova Technologies, PPL Corporation, and Edward Vogrins; Pin Sponsors Advanced Cleaning Solutions, Alera Group, Buckno Lisicky & Company, Linwood and Gail Gehris; Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network; Hawthorne Real Estate; Peoples Security Bank & Trust; Provident Bank; Remmel Opticians; Richard B.
