Monroe Lunch Fore Sight to Inspire Appreciation for Triumphs Over Visual Impairments

A new Center for Vision Loss event at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort will enable guests to gain a greater first-hand appreciation for personal triumphs over visual impairments.

The 2019 Monroe Lunch Fore Sight – sponsored in part by St. Luke’s University Health Network and Tree Course Adventures – will include a putting contest in which participants wear either a blindfold or goggles that simulate eye conditions. The event on Friday, Sept. 27, starts at 11 a.m. Tickets are $40 for the contest and lunch and can be purchased by calling 610.433.6018, Ext. 241.

Guests also will be encouraged to wear blindfolds as they eat lunch. The lunch will be followed by a special presentation of the agency’s Low Vision Road Show, which introduces technologies and devices that empower people with visual impairments to perform everyday tasks. A prize raffle also will be held during the luncheon.

Event proceeds benefit Center for Vision Loss services in Monroe County. The Center for Vision Loss is the only service agency that advances independence for people with visual impairments and people with healthy eyesight in Monroe County, along with Lehigh and Northampton counties.

The putting contest is sponsored by A Definite Edge Management Consulting. Table Partner Sponsors include Joseph B. Conahan, Jr., M.D., Mary Anne Heeter, Douglas and Andrea Yingling, and Dennis Zehner and Family.

The Center for Vision Loss serves Monroe County from its campus near Stroudsburg, PA. Its services for people with visual impairments provide access to medical care and food supplies, skills and technologies that improve capabilities, and a greater quality of life. Its screenings for preschool children prepare students to learn successfully, and its community education programs empower adults to preserve their visual capabilities. The agency provides its services at little or no cost, and more than three-quarters of its clients with impairments are from low-income households.
