WDIY to Premiere 26 More Defeating Darkness Episodes Starting in November

WDIY Lehigh Valley Public Radio has committed to premiere 26 additional episodes of the Defeating Darkness podcast, sponsored by Sights for Hope, extending the series’ run on the station through August 2027.

WDIY originally agreed to premiere the podcast’s first 10 episodes on five Fridays in October. It will now air eight additional episodes on four Fridays in November, followed by two episodes on the first Friday of each month from December through August. Episodes are released on popular podcast platforms – including Apple, Spotify, Amazon, iHeart, and Pandora – after their radio broadcasts.

Produced by Expect Good Media, LLC, Defeating Darkness is hosted by Sights for Hope client David Rimberg, Ph.D., and is Sights for Hope’s first podcast series. It invites listeners into David’s experience of adapting to blindness, which began in 2022 at the age of 80. Before his vision loss, he earned a doctorate in Environmental Engineering and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a safety engineer and college instructor.

Sights for Hope Board President Paul Miller serves as co-host. Miller, who has been completely blind for more than 20 years and is the founder of Active Learning Centers and Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, offers perspectives shaped by his own journey.

October was chosen for the podcast’s launch because it is recognized globally as Blindness Awareness Month. Sights for Hope and Expect Good Media originally planned to continue Defeating Darkness exclusively through streaming after the first 10 episodes were broadcast.

“We are excited to extend our engagement with WDIY to bring Defeating Darkness to a wider audience,” said Dennis Zehner, Sights for Hope’s Executive Director and CEO. “We believe the series is an important opportunity to educate our community about the challenges of vision loss and to share the skills, supports, solutions, confidence, and accomplishments that are also part of the story.”

Other productions by Expect Good Media, LLC, include Lehigh Valley Landmarks, a weekly short feature on WDIY, and the Cold Case Mysteries podcast series, which highlights unsolved mysteries in the Lehigh Valley area.
