Robert H. Spitz Foundation Awards Grant for Monroe Guided Transport Service

Sights for Hope has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Robert H. Spitz Foundation to support its Monroe County guided transport service.

The guided transport service helps Sights for Hope’s clients, who are blind or have visual impairments, access life-sustaining medical care, food supplies, Sights for Hope programs, and other esssential resources. Uniquely trained drivers provide safe transportation, guide clients from their homes and into their destinations with evidence-based techniques, and assist with basic tasks such as reading paperwork and carrying bags.

Sights for Hope provided 1,137 guided transports to 70 clients during its 2025-2026 year from its Monroe Services Center in Stroudsburg, PA.

“Transportation is about much more than getting from one place to another,” said Dennis Zehner, Executive Director and CEO of Sights for Hope. “For many people living with vision loss, reliable transportation is a key factor in maintaining independence, health, and community connections. We are grateful to the Robert H. Spitz Foundation for adding its support to this critical resource.”

Scranton Area Community Foundation has served as administrator of the Robert H. Spitz Foundation since 2016. The Robert H. Spitz Foundation is a tax-exempt, private foundation that supports initiatives and programs serving the residents of Lackawanna County and Northeastern Pennsylvania. Formed in 2015 through the estate of Mr. Spitz, the Robert H. Spitz Foundation supports an array of projects and programs that improve the Northeastern Pennsylvania region. To date, the Robert H. Spitz Foundation has provided over $6 million in funding to the community.
