Sights for Hope Client David Rimberg to Share His Journey with New Podcast

Sights for Hope client David Rimberg, Ph.D., will host a new podcast, titled Defeating Darkness, starting in October with its first 10 episodes also airing on WDIY Lehigh Valley Public Radio.

Sponsored by Sights for Hope and produced by Expect Good Media, LLC, of Bethlehem, PA, the podcast invites listeners into David’s experience of adapting to blindness, which began in 2022 at the age of 80. Before his vision loss, he had earned a doctorate in Environmental Engineering and enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a safety engineer and college instructor. David is joined by Sights for Hope Board President Paul Miller. Miller, who has been completely blind for more than 20 years and is the founder of Active Learning Centers and Lehigh Valley Martial Arts, serves as a mentor and co-host, offering perspectives shaped by his own journey.

Installments also will feature others who are overcoming blindness and visual impairments and professionals and volunteers who help people with vision loss maximize their independence and quality of life, including members of the Sights for Hope team.

“We believe that David’s podcast will be as valuable to people unfamiliar with vision loss as it will be to those who experience it every day,” said Dennis Zehner, Executive Director and CEO of Sights for Hope. “Listeners will hear deeply personal stories of resilience, practical insights from people living with vision loss, and thoughtful conversations about how families, friends, employers, and communities can authentically support and empower them.”

The first 10 episodes of Defeating Darkness will air Fridays at 6 p.m. on WDIY radio throughout October – which is recognized globally as Blind Awareness month – before becoming available as on demand on typical podcast platforms. Sights for Hope and the producers plan to continue the podcast with biweekly installments.

Productions by Expect Good Media, LLC, include Lehigh Valley Landmarks, a weekly short feature on WDIY radio, and the Cold Case Mysteries podcast series, which highlights unsolved mysteries in the Lehigh Valley area.
